A spectacular event in Barcelona saw the third annual round of awards to customers for excellence in communication, education, innovation, distribution and market performance
Barcelona, Spain, January 15, 2009. Tenneco Inc., manufacturer of Monroe® shock absorbers and Walker® exhaust systems and catalytic converters, today announced its prestigious Customer of the Year Award winners. A group of companies from all over the Europe, Middle East & Africa region, were recognized during a special awards ceremony held in the Pueblo Espanol in Barcelona, Spain.
“Tenneco strongly believes in partnerships,” said Alex Gelbcke, vice president and general manager, Aftermarket Europe. “The main objectives of this program are to recognize customers and share market views to better tackle the challenges of the Independent Aftermarket together.”
More than 300 Tenneco sales partners were invited to submit their nominations online. An external jury composed of experts and specialists from the European aftermarket selected the finalists and winners in five categories: Communication, Education, Innovation, Distribution and Market Performance.
The Communication award recognizes customers who demonstrate a balanced communication mix, creativity and dedication to using advertising and promotional means to promote their products. The Education award is presented to customers who show the greatest commitment to improving the standards found in the industry through their education and training programs. The Innovation award goes to customers who demonstrate the highest level of creativity and innovative thinking in any area of business. The Distribution award is for the physical distribution of goods and recognizes those customers who create the most efficient and effective distribution networks. The Market Performance award is for high efficiency in sales and market intelligence processes, as well as driving efficiencies through every area of business. The Partnership award is presented to long-term customers who continuously demonstrate the ability to partner with Tenneco to enhance supplier standards and contribute to better service for the entire customer base.
The Customer of the Year accolade has been awarded since 2006 by Tenneco to its Monroe® and Walker® customers.

Participants spent two days in Barcelona participating in round tables with external specialists to facilitate best practice exchanges to support the competitiveness of the independent aftermarket and distributors. Topics included strategy in times of crisis, product portfolio management, financial management, using new media to engage with customers and change management and motivation.
